Med 5 dagar kvar till Sweden Rock Festival fortsätter vi med serien ”Inför Sweden Rock 2015”. Nästa band ut är tyska MAD MAX. Rocknytts Effie Trikili har fått en pratstund med bandets gitarrist Jürgen Breforth.
Mad Max, som skivdebuterade 1982, hör till kultbanden på 80-talets tyska hårdrocksscen. Deras fjärde album “Night of passion” (1987) är kanske deras mest kända, en pudelrocksklassiker i Def Leppards anda. Efter den skivan splittrades Mad Max, för att göra en första trevande comeback först 1999. 2011 tog återföreningen riktig skruv, då hela “Night of passion”-sättningen kom på plats. Nämnda sättning har sedan dess släppt den lämpligt betitlade “Another night of passion” (2012) och “Interceptor” (2013). Mad Max inkluderar för övrigt den numera välkände sångaren och gitarristen Michael Voss, vars cv inkluderar namn som Michael Schenker och Bonfire.
First of all, welcome to Sweden! This will be your first visit here and of course your debut at Sweden Rock Festival, what are your expectations?
Especially our singer Michael Voss and I are totally excited to come to Sweden for the very first time ever! Our drummer Axel has been to Sweden several times with his former band JADED HEART but with MAD MAX it’s the very first show EVER! We hope that our swedish fans will give us a warm welcome. It’s a huge honor for us to be part of Sweden Rock with so many legendary bands on the bill this
year. We will play a very special BEST OF set for our swedish friends!
Sweden Rock Festival is the only show you have announced for this summer. How do your future plans look like?
Sweden Rock is our only festival show this year… We will play a couple of indoor shows later this year to promote the upcoming BEST OF album in Europe. Tourdates will be announced soon!
Your last album ”Interceptor” was released back in 2013 and you also have a best of album coming out soon. Do you have any plans on a new album with new material?
For the next future we will tour and promote only the BEST OF album… From tons of e-mails we know that the fans mostly love the old 80ies stuff and we as a band still love to play the old stuff as well.
Have you decided on a setlist yet? How are you thinking when deciding a festival set?
The setlist will be pure 80ies which means we will perform the entire BEST OF album for the very first time ever! That will include songs we haven’t played for years!
Mad Max has been a band for over 30 years now, how does it feel to be a band today compared on how it was back in 1982? Is it as fun as it was back then?
30 years…Wow! HaHa! We are very happy that there are so many young rockfans that are listening to our old songs. In these days of internet and 24 hours media overkill it’s pretty tough to raise interest for our kind of music… That was a lot easier in 1982. Having an vinyl album out with self written songs was pretty cool in 1982 and we were heroes in our hometown.
Finally, what would you like to tell all Swedish fans coming out to see you at Sweden Rock Festival?
First let me say thanks to the Sweden Rock guys for inviting us and for giving us the chance to perform in Sweden for the very first time. We hope you will love our show and the BEST OF setlist and give us the chance to come back maybe for a few club shows later this year! Sweden… MAD MAX is ready to rock!
