Med 6 dagar kvar till Sweden Rock Festival fortsätter vi med serien ”Inför Sweden Rock 2015”. Nästa band ut är MOTHER’S FINEST. Rocknytts Calle Engund har fått en pratstund med sångerskan Joyce.
Ett av den amerikanska Söderns mest banbrytande band under 70-talet var Mother’s Finest från Atlanta. De blandade funk med hård rock och dessutom soul från sångarduon Glenn Murdock och Joyce Kennedy. Bandet debuterade 1972, slog igenom 1976 och var som allra störst i skarven mellan 70- och 80-tal med låtar som “Baby love”, “Love changes” och “Piece of the rock”. 1992 släppte de “Black radio won’t play this record”, en fullfjädrad funk metal-platta och kultförklarad klassiker. Våren 2015 släpper Mother’s Finest sitt tionde studioalbum, följt av deras av många efterlängtade återkomst till SRF.
Welcome back to Sweden and Sweden Rock Festival! What are your expectations this time around?
– As always I expect to do my best to get the audience to fall in love with Mother`s Finest and to have a GREAT time with our classics as well the new songs from our recent album “Goody 2 Shoes & The Filthy Beasts”!
Do you have any memories you would like to share regarding Sweden Rock festival, or Sweden in general?
– I recall that it was early in the afternoon in the rain and the people were so ready for us I didn’t care that I was getting wet! That day will be hard to top!
So tell us a little about you new album, ”Goody 2 shoes & the filthy beast”. How has it been received?
– Oh My Goodness it’s so fantastic how everyone all over Europe is excited after listening to the Beast! It has been received with satisfaction. It`s our first studio album after 13 years and we didn`t know what to expect but all the fans embraced it!
Mother’s Finest has been around for more than 40 years, what do you think is the recipe for such a long and successful career?
– There is not an answer for all things in life. We always believed in each other and trusted that things always had a way of working out in time! We are in the lucky position to please Hard Rock fans as well as normal rock fans and funky people, not many bands have this.
Your latest album is the 10th in you career, now if we look back; what song is your favorite to play live and why?
– But of course BABY LOVE and MICKEY`S MONKEY, but now today for me is My Badd, it’s a beast of a song! But also “Angels” and “Shut Up” from the new album always go down well.
And last but not least, what can we expect from Mother’s Finest at 2015’s Sweden Rock Festival, any surprises?
– Mostly no jetlag and an awesome reaction to the new music! A great day in the sun and prepared for a band who is well oiled and running!
