Malmö punk rockers The Headlines are back with their new release, Warpaint! This time around they’ve delivered a fun album that rails against authority.
It has been 3 years since their last release, In The End. Where I was not able to fully enjoy their last album due to inconsistencies in the flow of the tracks and the mix of style in their sound, that has been cured with this new release.
What is new with Warpaint? The band sounds more cohesive. The tracklist is solid, there are no songs on this album that feel like they do not fit. There is a feel of the 2000’s punk sound in their new music that gives a cool throwback feel to entire album. Without washing away their punk style, they have managed to add a polished and complete feel to their final mix that fits perfectly. That’s what I felt was missing with their last release where they simply had a sound that was ok and would make for a fun live show but did not really grab my attention.
With this new album, I think The Headlines have taken their sound up to the next level are ready for recognition from North American festivals like Punk Rock Bowling (Las Vegas), Las Rageous, Punk in Drublic (touring punk festival), many European festivals and tour with some of the greats in this genre. With Warpaint, The Headlines have solidified their sound and while staying true to their punk roots they can easily push this album out to a more mainstream audience and tour on a wider scale as I feel more listeners will take notice of this new release. While listening I felt that these tracks are the kind I would expect to hear on a movie soundtrack so I expect that this new album will gain the band some traction where they have not had it yet. Overall, I am really impressed with what The Headlines have done with this release.
In summary: The Headlines did a great job with Warpaint. I am really looking forward to this new release reaching the listeners. I suggest that you take a full listen to the new album and if you can catch them live, do it.
