Temperance – Diamanti

Texten passar alla Heavy Metal-fans: ”Who cannot wait to start to play, screaming louder than hell…”, “We (the Metalheads) are survivors!”, “Metal is for all, we’re a union” and “bang your head, follow the rhythm, feel the power inside!”

”Diamanti” innehåller också en fin kärlekslåt, ”Fairy Tales for the Stars”.

Kanske lite väl medeltida käckt blir det i ”Litany of the Northern Lights”. Under solot spelas slingrande gitarrtoner, innan musiken blir snabbare igen.

Alla tre sångare sjunger utmärkt, vilket hörs bra i till exempel ”I the Loneliness”.

”Follow Me” avslutar, men lutar lite väl mycket åt musikalhållet.

(English version)
After releasing their fifth studio album ”Viridian”, as recently as last year, Temperance’s new album ”Diamanti” has now landed. Here the band shows their skilled ability to merge brilliant vocal melodies, strong Power Metal riffs and symphonic soundscapes in a good harmony.

”Diamanti” was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Epica, Amaranthe), with the cover artwork once again created by Yann Souetre (Ayreon).

The first track ”Pure Life Unfolds” has both grandiose music and is Heavy. Rapid drums are heard here, which in the middle of the song turn into slow, bouncing beats. The piece ends with nice, acoustic guitar playing. Marco Pastorino, one of the three vocalists, sometimes sings in a scratchy way, sounding a little like a crow or something creaking. I wonder if he really has to do that, because usually Marco has a very nice and clear voice.

It is a very fast speed on the drums in ”Breaking the Rules of Heavy Metal”. The singers’ tempo also pumps on fast. All their voices intertwine and rush up to the high notes together, which sounds very good. Here we also find nice guitar tones and a delightful bass. The track makes you breathless, but at the same time it is energizing. The lyrics fits all Heavy Metal fans: ”Who cannot wait to start to play, screaming louder than hell…”, “We (the Metalheads) are survivors!”, “Metal is for all, we’re a union” and “bang your head, follow the rhythm, feel the power inside!” You can only agree.

In the title track, the soft is mixed with rushing Metal. Something that also alternates is the languages. They usually sing in English, but a lovely touch here is that the chorus is sung in their own language, Italian. It became cool and fits very well, which made the whole piece even better. ”Diamanti” also contains a nice love song, ”Fairy Tales for the Stars”. This tune runs in a mid tempo, which makes it better than if it would have been a ballad.

Maybe it becomes a little too medieval perky in “Litany of the Northern Lights”. To the sound of, among other things, flute, the song marches on at high speed. During the solo, winding guitar tones are played, before the music gets faster again. It sounds like a symphony orchestra in the background of “You Only Live Once”. The bridge to the chorus is dramatic in a theatrical way, with a bigger background choir, which I personally would have been without. However, it is a bit epic and the song is good, with a heavy rhythm artillery.

All three vocalists sing superbly, which is heard well in “I the Loneliness”, for example. The trio has strength and volume. They are skilled and know exactly how to use their voices. How they push out the tones during this track and let them take speed is fantastic. The latter part of the intro to “The Night Before the End” has a darker undertone. The chorus has a nice flow and the rhythm section makes a great performance. The music takes a few micro pauses and then rushes on at a comfortable pace. The material is symphonic, but also heavier and faster.

The second last “Let’s Get Started” is an awesome composition, which would have been perfect as an album opener, but will hopefully start their concerts instead. It sounds Halestorm-cool and has a slightly cocky attitude, like Lzzy Hale, but here with more joy. Drums and guitar are extra good. The group delivers Rock’n’Roll full of go, together with rich Metal and a symphonic touch. “Follow Me” ends the record, but becomes a little too much musical theater. What saves the situation is Temperance’s heaviness, speed and power, plus an excellent drummer.

Temperance is a bunch of enormously skilled musicians and singers. The new album is good. It contains lovely voices, energetic music and catchy melodies. If you are a big fan of Symphonic Metal you will like “Diamanti”.
